Hi, I'm Amanda Swem. I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan and I'm an educational technology leader. I have been in education for over 15 years. I currently teach k-8 technology classes, provide the staff with professional development on the admin team, and fix IT issues in the building. 

Before becoming a technology specialist I taught High School math and ELA, then moved to fourth grade, kindergarten, first grade, and became an elementary and middle school math and ELA interventionist. I love my current job as a technology specialist dean.

When I'm not teaching I love being outside and playing sports. I played basketball in college and it is still my favorite sport. I enjoy working with my hands and trying new things. For years I have had a personal interest in digital learning so seven years ago I accepted a tech specialist teaching job. The problem I see with having technology in the classrooms at my school is the lack of knowledge, resources, and support for the teachers on how to use devices as an educational tool to enhance learning. As I progress through my career I hope to help teach teachers and families how technology can better enhance student learning in the classroom and even the playing field. Technology isn't only a fun toy it's an incredible tool!
